Lately I’ve Been Thinking

Lately I have been pondering change; change in the apple trees, change in the pumpkin crop, change along the hayride trail, change in staff, change in general; personal change, professional change and change in the life of the farm here at Wiard’s Orchards and Country Fair.  Change is a constant, inevitable, of that we are certain.  Most people like change, IF they are the ones instigating the change; those very same people balk at change when it is thrust upon them by someone else or by a life event.  The degree to which we are able to adapt to change and how quickly we are able to adapt in part determines how happy or unhappy we will be in life.

One of the things that I enjoy about working here at Wiard’s Orchards is that while much changes, much stays the same.  While change is necessary to move things forward, I appreciate that the farm is a constant in my life and in the lives of many others.  Apple trees are stable, the cider press runs in the fall year after year, every September and October, I will go home smelling like donuts.  Every fall the phone will ring off the wall.  Every fall families will come out and enjoy the farm.  The Wiard family has been a constant in this ever-changing world, here on this farm for 180 years, and that is something that will not change!
