Excellent for eating fresh & salads; poor for baking. Sweet. Red Delicious has a sweet but very mild flavor, somewhat reminiscent of slightly over-ripe melon. The flesh is juicy and has a light crispness. The skin can be quite tough. Overall Red Delicious can be quite a refreshing apple to eat, but its chief characteristic is that it has almost no flavor at all.
The Golden Delicious apple is excellent for eating fresh, pies & salads; Very good for baking, making apple sauce or apple butter. Keep it’s shape nicely. Sweet. Exceptionally sweet and rich, almost like eating raw sugar cane. Golden. It has an attractive appearance – which can indeed be golden if left to mature on the tree.
The Ruby Jon has creamy, white flesh and crisp, juicy eating quality similar to old-fashioned Jonathan, with 100% Jonathan flavor and size. Jonathan apples are very good for eating fresh, cooking & salads.
